About

Back in 1988 several women from Holiday Island decided they’d like to start a quilting group. They put an ad in the local paper and 2 days later 23 quilting enthusiasts attended the initial meeting.

Within the first year the members were involved in numerous quilt related activities, from a luncheon for 90 locals with ‘show and tell’, to making a raffle quilt, to having their first quilt show.

As they accumulated funds, their dedication to helping others became apparent. Numerous charitable causes were funded, from buying art supplies for the local high school to paying for hearing aids for a local student.

Today the guild has continued in the same manner. We are inspired by one another’s works and techniques. We enjoy teaching one another as well as learning from outside speakers as there is always something new to learn. We try to help new quilters learn the fun of quilt making.

But the group is more than those things. We also enjoy the social aspect. We think of it as a ‘feel good’ group. We get so many ‘oohs and ahhhs’ and so many ‘pats on the back’ for our work.

As has been said (and proven by the infamous Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Co), “Quilters are the most generous people in the world!” Because we enjoy quilting, we donate constantly, making quilts for anyone we feel might benefit from the love and caring that goes into making a quilt.

One of our founders always said, “If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it.” And we do enjoy quilt making.
